NovaraJazz 2013|14

NovaraJazz season 2013/2014 starts early in September with Mistaking Monks (Cristiano Calcagnile in trio with Xabier Iriondo and Gianni Mimmo). It goes on with Rita Marcotulli and Antonio Zambrini in duo, Vijay Iyer in trio with Stephan Crump and Marcus Gilmore, the drummers Francesco Cusa with the performers Melaku Belay and Jennifer Cabrera and the voice of Gaia Mattiuzzi in the NovaraJazz Goes to Ethiopia night, Jang Bang and Arve Herniksen in duo, Phil Minton in quartet with Veryan Weston, John Butcher and Roger Turner, The Full Blast Trio (Peter Brötzmann, Marino Pliakas and Micheal Wertmüller), Mike Westbrook in trio with Kate Westbrooke and Chris Biscoe, Nu Band (Roy Campbell, Marck Whitecage, Joe Fonda and Lou Grassi) and finally Day & Taxi (Christoph Gallio, Silvan Jeger and David Meier).

At theXI edition, NovaraJazz 2014 starts with some anticipation: Stefano Bollani in piano solo (organisation by Phenomenon and Veruno Musica, with Groove Company and NovaraJazz support); Francesco Chiapperini NoPair feauturing Tim Berne (project by Francesco Chiapperini and Ah Um Milano Jazz Festival) and Alberto Mandarini e la Contemporary Ensemble (into Cantelli Conservatory’s Festival dei Fiati program).

The news is the first NovaraJazz week end in unusual location in and around Novara. The Wayne Horvitz European Orchestra for the artistic residence at Agriturismo Vignarello in Tornaco is the Horvitz come back after 10 years from his live in NovaraJazz. The festival main stage is still into Broletto’s courtyard. NovaraJazz 2014 host the italian preview of Hidden Orchestra, Funky Mama and Jungle By Night. This edition concludes the live show with Martin Küchen’s Angles 9.

NovaraJazz is not just concerts and is completed with others collateral activities: concerts with tasting typical food and wine in the historic places in and around Novara, jam session, happy hours with dj set and the first edition of StreetJazz with 10 concerts and bands from three conservtories in northern Italy.
