NovaraJazz 2017|18
The inclusion of jazz in dance continues with the new co-production Borders, the meeting between the contemporary performer Roberta Racis and the musicians Francesco Diodati and Ermanno Baron.
Taste of Jazz is the weekly Thursday evening appointment that brings young jazz artists from Northern Italy to the stage of Opificio – Cucina and Bottega: Pigreco, Samoa Wedding Quintet, Acidjazz Trumpet is Dead!, Wazy Quartet, Filippo Cosentino Trio, Francesco Chiapperini Apulia Folk Sextet, Ok Bellezza!, Fukin’ Monks, Motel Kaiju, Giulio Stermieri Stopping Trio, Kathya West Trio, Chicken Race, Crossing Quartet, The Paolo Fabbri Jazz Ensemble, Stefano Grasso Fat Trio, Rejoice Ensemble, Tri(o)ttico, Apramada Project, Andrea Serino Trio, Johnny Lapio & ARCOTE Project, Alfonsine Duo, Daniele Cavallanti A World of Sound.
The NovaraJazz season comes alive with its summer appointments. It starts with the artistic residence at the Cascina Bullona of Magenta that brings out ImproveU, the project with the Finnish saxophonist Linda Fredriksson, the Italian double bass player Silvia Bolognesi, and the Norwegian drummer Håkon Berre, feauturing the violinist Emanuele Parrini. The Broletto stage returns to star with a double appointment with Matteo Bortone Trio – ClarOscuro, thanks to the collaboration with Young Jazz of Foligno, and Pipe Dream, the result of an international collaboration between the American cellist Hank Roberts and four of the most creative musicians of the new Italian scene: Pasquale Mirra, Zeno De Rossi, Giorgio Pacorig and Filippo Vignato. The Drive! Trio, composed by Giovanni Guidi, Joe Rehmer and Federico Scettri, opens the evening that brings protagonists on the stage of the Broletto Horse Lords, the Baltimore quartet formed by Andrew Bernstein, Max Eilbacher, Owen Gardner and Sam Haberman. Nubiyan Twist, a London-based project led by guitarist and producer Tom Excell, moves the evening with a stylish “future jazz, afro-dub” based on winds, percussion, electronics and swaying grooves. Pigreco, young musicians from Novara, winners of the second edition of the “Taste of Jazz” 2017 Prize, open the evening which then welcomes Gianluigi Trovesi with Rudi Migliardi together with the Banda Filarmonica di Oleggio. NovaraJazz continues with De Beren Gieren, the Belgian trio among the most intriguing of the young European scene, and with The Young Mothers, a sextet that moves in a sort of stylistic and sonorous tower of babel, mixing hardcore jazz with metal, rap with rock, hip hop with funk and free. The evenings at the Broletto end with the Goran Kajfes Subtropic Arkestra, a concentrate of energy straddling Afrobeat, ethio-jazz and funky, enriched by free shades and psychedelic eccentricities.
