NovaraJazz 2019
The preview is the concert with bassist Roberto Del Piano and violinist Matthias Boss in the vineyards of the Barbaglia Winery in Cavallirio, on Sunday 23 September 2018.
The season goes deep with the national and international jazz scene: Jaimie Branch and his latest project Fly Or Die, an avant-garde trumpeter known for a “ghostly sounds”; The Digital Primitives, musicians who are both modern and ancient, explorers and researchers, deeply rooted in the past while tracing a new path towards the future; Nicola Arata with his Ararat Ensemble Orchestra puts Haruna Kuyateh at the center of the scene, to present an African Suite dedicated to the Senegalese griot Aliou Ndaye; Roots Magic and their blues combined with the compositions of some jazz great artists; Alessandro Giachero Danse in a project of original compositions with language unitary in a naive and highly expressive becoming; the NovaraJazz Collective for the International Jazz Day .
The inclusion of jazz and dance goes on with the new co-production “Una crepa, nostalgia dell’oro” with the dancers Elisa D’Amico and Lucia Guarino, and Matteo Bortone on double bass and electronics.
The Taste of Jazz exhibition are confirmed as a weekly point on Thursday evening. It brings young jazz artists from Northern Italy to the stage of Opificio – Cucina e Bottega Sound4quartet, Essential Lines, Ubik Trio, Luca Pedeferri Contemporary Project, Shevitza, N.E.P. (Nu Expression Project), 3AL BOT Jazz Quartet, L.W. Sextet, Johnny Lapio Quintet, Yazan Greselin e Massimiliano Salina, Andrea Grossi Blend 3, Freeda Quartet, Irene Natale & Anselmo Luisi, Torpedo Blu, Simona Severini, My River Runs to Thee, Simone Quatrana, The Gumbos, Gabriella D’Amico e Cristiano Da Ros, Jazz Art Trio, Mixed Media Trio, Hip Bop Quartet, Dario Yassa Trio.
The NovaraJazz goes on with its summer festival and is confirmed as an event capable of triggering ever new relationships between music, places and people. The start is given by the artistic residence at Cascina Bullona in Magenta which brings out Matteo Bortone Travelers + 1, a project of strong melodies, free splits and songwriting passages, led by the apulian double bass player Matteo Bortone together with a Franco-Italian ensemble with Antonin-Tri Hoang ( sax), Francesco Diodati (guitar), Ariel Tessier (percussion) and Yannick Lestra ( Rhodes , keyboards, effects).
The Broletto main stage returns with Giulio Corini Libero Motu , thanks to the renewed collaboration with Young Jazz of Foligno, and Elephank Project, in which arrangements of trumpet and solid grooves create a warm and versatile sound enriched by electronic contaminations with an aftertaste seventy . The Ill Considered trio, in a concert that is wild, outrageously energetic, moving, subtly dynamic and surprisingly coherent, and Khalab feat . Tamar Collocutor and Tommaso Cappellato, a journey from the most ancestral tribes to the less explored cosmos that combines the more traditional sound of black Africa, the evolutions of African American music and electronic research. Animanz & Juanita Euka, a London urban jungle safari in a world of groove and euphoria. Marco Remondini with the Banda Filarmonica Di Oleggio opened the last weekend, followed by Roberta Brighi LW 6tet, winners of the Gorgonzola “Taste of Jazz” Award (2018), in a project dedicated to Coleman’s music and the concept of ” Armolodia”. The three moments dedicated to the exploration of the French rhythm of ARFI, Workshop de Lyon, Trio Impro and L’Effet Vapeur, anticipate Simone Graziano Frontal. La Marmite Infernale, one of the most disordered orchestras of the current Jazz scene, closes the roundup of the NovaraJazz 2019 concerts on the Broletto main stage.
NovaraJazz is not only concerts, but is completed with collateral events: concerts with the tasting of food and wine local products in some of the historical places of Novara and its province for the Taste of Jazz appointments; the photographic exhibition “Another Kind of Blue” at Opificio with Fabio Gamba shots ; dancing evenings with the Silent Party® and the UPO Party; events for children in collaboration with the Libreria La Talpa dei Bambini, with workshops dedicated to reading, music and painting; editorial presentations in two meetings with authors who have dealt with the theme of jazz in various facet; and the vinyl fair.
The Taste of Jazz performances of this great NovaraJazz 2019 festival brought jazz to unusual and fascinating places in Novara and around: Andrea Marchetti Quartet at Opificio, at the Mulino Vecchio in Bellinzago Novarese with the solo by Matteo Bortone, Ariel Tessier and Séverine Morfin followed by No Tongues at the Museo Fanchini in Oleggio, the musical stages at the Diramatore Cavour with Séverine Morfin and near the Ticino Natural Park with Ronan Courty, at Villa Picchetta in Cameri with Three Days Of Forest followed by Ronan Prual and Matthieu Prual, Alan Regardin at the Centrale Idroelettrica Orlandi in Galliate, Luca Pissavini at the Croce di Malto Brewery in Trecate, Francesco Bigoni under the dome in the Basilica San Gaudenzio in Novara, at Casa Bossi with Italian String Trio, in the courtyard of the Canonica del Duomo con OlmO, at the Sala del Compasso with Sanne Huijbregts, at the Castello Visconteo Sforzesco with Actuel Remix, Ben van Gelder in solo under the dome of the Basilica San Gaudenzio, in the garden of Palazzo Natta with Jeuselou du Dimanche, at the Museum of Natural History Faraggiana Ferrandi with Reinier Baas and Ben van Gelder and among the works of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna Giannoni with Barre Phillips, NovaraJazz 2019’s golden key.
